Federation of State Medical Boards (FSMB) Presentation Spotlight
PBI Education Medical Director Catherine V. Caldicott, MD, and Georgia Composite Medical Board Member Matthew Norman, MD, are scheduled to co-present on the topic “Breaking New Ground: Mitigating Sexual Misconduct Through Legislation, Regulation, and Education” at the FSMB 2025 Annual Meeting in Seattle, Washington. Join them to explore the intersection of legislation, education, and regulatory oversight in shaping professional medical practice.
Attendees will learn how the Georgia Composite Medical Board (GCMB) addressed the challenge of implementing a new educational mandate inspired by House Bill 458, that was signed into law by Gov. Brian Kemp in 2021. The legislation aims to protect the public by reducing clinician sexual misconduct through preventive education. One of the provisions of the new law mandated the GCMB to develop comprehensive educational resources focused on sexual misconduct, boundaries, trauma impacts, and implicit bias.
Learn more about how the GCMB collaborated with an education partner to meet the educational requirements, what has happened in the years since the law went into effect, and how the mandated education has shaped the GCMB’s regulatory processes.
